Who Can Tell?
"Who can discern his errors?..." Psalm 19:12
Discernment is one of the most
important criteria in the life of a believer. Seductions are
rampart, and close at hand.
David wrote:
"Who can discern his errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.
Keep
Your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me.
Then
will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression." [Psalm
19:12-13]
Our errors are those which are committed inadvertently. Some sins we commit out of pure ignorance; others, willfully. That which are committed inadvertently are done from ignorance and weakness. The willful are done out of rebellion.
Beth Moore states that the application of the
word 'segihah' means to waver, wander, go astray; to lead
astray, misdirect, seduce; to sin through ignorance; to reel;
evil habits...that cause people to stray from God's
commands...much like sheep gradually stray from their shepherd.
The original word for 'errors' comes from this word.
Weakness sets us up for seduction -- which can lead to sins
committed inadvertently. All is well planned and strategically
timed, nothing accidental or coincidental, on the enemy's part.
When we are burdened down with sin, we are subject to seduction. We are so quick to point out the flaws of others; yet, our best line of defense is to recognize where we've each gone wrong, and where we are weakest.
Our hidden faults are those things on which we are short-sighted. All of us have blind spots. We need the Body of Christ to stand with us and to re-direct us when we are off course.
Apart from the protection of the Spirit of God
through discernment, and the ministry through the Body of
Christ, we are left with our weak areas of vulnerability.
